I was lucky enough to attend the Melbourne launch of the Macaronut witch is a new collaboration by Dessert Parlour and Macaron Sisters who came together to form an event called The Macaronut Pop Up – Melbourne hosted by the good people at Long Story Short Cafe ahead of their own opening on Monday.Having just relocated from Richmond.
So what is a Macaronut I hear you ask well it’s a cross between a macaron and a donut so it has a crunchy top and a soft bottom sandwiching other accompanying complementary flavours between the two halfs.
There were three of them on offer to sample at the event they were:
first was a chocolate salted caramel: a chocolate macaron shell on a soft chocolate doughnut, filled with chocolate ganache and drizzled with salted caramel.
Second was a chocolate raspberry: a vanilla macaron shell on a white-chocolate and raspberry doughnut, filled with fresh raspberries and raspberry ganache.
and finally the third was a matcha flavour.
Personally I could not set say that I preferred one over the other because having tried each one in order to do a comparison I believe that you would be unable to say that one was better than the other because each flavour offered it’s own elements which were tasty in their own right.
The only thing I could say about them was that some of the flavours were a little more punchy in terms of when the flavour hit you.
I give the event A thumbs up I was pretty happy all aroundwith this well put together event.Well done guys.
I think we might say there is appearing in house now you’ll have to do is ask.
At $7 a pop they might be considered a little pricey by some but well worth a try if you can get your hands on them.
Keep your eyes out for a separate review of Long Story Short Cafe. If you can’t wait until then why don’t you swing on by and try out the hosts for yourself.
There is a step at the front door but not to worry there is an accessible entrance via the side of the premises which the staff will be happy to assist you with upon request.
